In second grade Music, we have lots of fun learning through play and stories! We play music games, read children's literature with music elements added, and learn to read and compose using manipulatives.

We will learn several new rhythm elements including 2 beat meter, and it's conducting pattern, and half note. We will add solfege (a method of naming notes in a scale) until we have reached a five note scale, or pentatonic scale, and we'll learn to analyze basic musical form (same and different sections). Our composition and listening exercises begin to get pretty advanced this year!

In second grade, we will play on barred instruments and various percussion, and we will begin learning about the string and percussion instrument families. This year we'll also learn some simple folk dances, which are always a student favorite!
