I believe that every student deserves access to a quality Music Education. We teach music because of it's own merit: it has power to connect to our souls and provide fullness of life, it connects us to our past, present, and future, and it makes us human. Music is a core academic subject on it's own. Music has many extrinsic values that make it a helpful tool for success in other areas, and while this is wonderful and useful, we must also be sure to study music for it's own sake. Just as we study Math for knowledge of math, and History for knowledge of history, we study Music for knowledge of music.
