Kindergarten Music

unnamed.png

Kindergarten Music is driven by directed movement and play. We use games, instruments, manipulatives, movement, and stories to learn basic musical concepts such as steady beat and high and low sounds.

Children need to move, and in Kinder, one of our biggest goals is that the children experience what the music feels like. The students use drums, rhythm sticks, scarves, and their bodies to express how music feels to them.

In the lower grades, we use storytelling and children's literature to help with retention and literacy, and make connections to the student's other classes. Often, we will read a book the students have encountered elsewhere, but we will add a song or musical element.

  • Try asking your child what their favorite music game or activity is after the first month of classes!
