Fifth Grade Music

Musical Notes

In Fifth grade Music, we will begin learning Ukulele! We will continue with recorders as well, becoming more sophisticated as we go; the students will be playing in two parts by the end of the year. We will play complex drum and barred instrument music, and students will be able to join our school choir and the Garland Children's Chorus if they would like.

We will prepare for sixth grade by learning about middle school band and choir - we may even have some special guests come in to tell us more!

We will progress in our ability to read music from the staff by reading and analyzing full songs, and we will continue to practice singing and playing in two parts by singing in canon (one song sung by different groups starting at different times) and reading two parts from the staff. Fifth grade is a very important point in the music literacy process, because students complete all elementary school elements and learn to compose, create, and read with their cumulative knowledge.
